What is Infrared Sauna?

Traditional steam saunas can be a wonderful way to relax, and they have numerous health benefits.  Infrared Saunas take this to the next level by providing greater health benefits in even safer conditions.

Infrared is a safe wavelength of light (or energy) which we feel as heat. Infrared works by heating the body directly, safely warming us to create a cardiovascular workout for the body whilst removing heavy metals and toxins. An infrared sauna is different from a steam or hot rocks sauna in that it heats the body at a lower, more comfortable temperature.

Health Professionals have been using infrared technology for years. It is safe to use if you have a pacemaker or breast implants. However, you should not use an Infrared Sauna if you: are pregnant; have uncovered wounds/abrasions; or have been experiencing gastroenteritis, vomiting, stomach flu or nausea.

Benefits of the Infrared Sauna include:

  • ANTI-INFLAMMATORY BENEFITS: Infrared Sauna has been shown to reduce inflammatory markers in the body and assist in muscle recovery.
  • CARDIOVASCULAR HEALTH BENEFITS: Infrared Sauna provides a natural boost in circulation, with regular use shown to assist weight loss.
  • ASSISTS WITH SLEEP: Infrared Sauna activates the parasympathetic nervous system, leaving you calm and relaxed.
  • SKIN BOOSTER: Infrared therapy has been shown to reduce the burden of toxins on the body and promote collagen production in the skin.

What to know about your first Infrared sauna session?

Anytime is the perfect time to enjoy a sauna session. Infrared sauna can also be used to finish off a gym workout or as a warm-up before a workout.

It is important to make sure you are well hydrated before and after any sauna session for maximum benefit and detoxification. Try not to wear personal care products before your session. Clean skin will make it easier for you to cleanse and clear out all the toxins and impurities.

Our Infrared Sauna sessions are 45min long, but you are free to shorten your experience anytime that suit you. We suggest wearing loose clothes when coming for your sauna session or at least bring a change of loose clothes to wear afterwards. Towels are provided – one to sit on and one to wear.  Some clients chose to wear a towel, a bathing suit, or their undergarments in the sauna. Jewellery may be tarnished if worn in the sauna, so we strongly recommend that you don’t wear any.

Recommendations when showering after your session:

  • Modern showers are available in private bathrooms.
  • Wait at least 15 minutes after your sauna before showering, if possible, so as to experience the maximum benefits.
  • The water temperature should ideally be cool to warm.
  • Avoid using soap, shampoo or moisturiser after your sauna, as these products can block the freshly opened pores of the skin and stop the post-sauna detox effect.
