The Body Refinery - Over 10 years of expertise

Originally named “Pilates Studio New Farm”, the business was established in 2003, earning a reputation for teaching high-quality, pure Pilates. In 2007, physiotherapist, Susan Cottrell, purchased the business, adding physiotherapy, remedial massage and new equipment. The Brisbane studio expanded into two larger premises to accommodate its growth and additional services.

In 2009 the Pilates studio was re-named “The Body Refinery” to reflect its range of rehabilitation and exercise programs, including:

  • Physiotherapy
  • Pilates Classes
  • Remedial Massage
  • Musculoskeletal Therapy

On your first visit, one of our physiotherapists will conduct an initial consultation and ultrasound assessment to identify your physical needs and discuss your goals and aspirations.

An appropriate program will be designed to suit your requirements. All Pilates classes are taught by qualified instructors, who will ensure you follow your individual program whether in a one-on-one or group Pilates class. This establishes the ability to perform all exercises correctly and safely to achieve the best results. Healthcare rebates are available, under certain conditions. Check with your health fund.

The Body Refinery team is here to help you incorporate effective movement into your busy life.

We structure our Pilates classes to provide you with flexibility and accessibility, whilst keeping class sizes small to ensure we provide the highest quality personalised Pilates experience.

For every class, we recommend that you:

  • Wear comfortable clothing that allows freedom of movement
  • For your own comfort, do not eat heavily at least one hour before your session
  • Bring a towel, a pair of socks and a drink bottle

We encourage open and honest feedback so we can keep improving our service to clients. Please provide us with your valued feedback.

Please note that the Initial Consultation is compulsory for all new clients, regardless of experience.
