Ageing Well: Move More, Stay Strong, Live Better

Getting older is inevitable. Feeling old doesn’t have to be.

Ageing is a natural part of life, but losing strength, balance, mobility and independence doesn’t have to be. One of the most powerful ways to support healthy ageing is through something simple: movement.

Regular exercise does more than keep our muscles strong. It supports brain health, improves balance, boosts mood and helps us continue doing the things we love.

Move Your Body, Support Your Brain

From the age of about 65, the risk of developing certain neurological conditions, such as dementia, increases.

While age and genetics play a role, lifestyle factors can also influence our risk. The 2024 Lancet Commission estimated that addressing 14 modifiable risk factors could prevent or delay nearly 45% of dementia cases worldwide.

Physical activity is one important part of the picture. Exercise helps manage risk factors such as high blood pressure, diabetes and obesity, while also supporting sleep, mood and cognitive health.

Research also suggests that staying physically active is associated with healthier brain ageing and may help maintain the brain’s ability to adapt and form new connections.
A stronger body and a healthier brain? That’s a great reason to keep moving!

Stay Strong, Steady and Independent

As we age, changes in muscle strength, coordination, reaction time and balance can make everyday activities more challenging.

But the good news is that exercise can make a noticeable difference.

A combination of strength training, balance exercises and functional movement can help you:

  • Improve strength, stability and coordination.
  • Reduce your risk of falls.
  • Get up and down from the floor, or seated position, with greater ease.
  • Feel confident walking, climbing stairs and staying active.
  • Maintain independence and enjoy everyday life.

And the best part? It’s never too late to start.
