Susan has combined her skills in physiotherapy with her love of Pilates to teach perfect poise, alignment and healthy movement. She operated her own massage business while completing a degree in physiotherapy, and then worked as a physiotherapist at Sydney's St Vincent's Hospital before she moved to private practice in Brisbane in 2006.
After suffering on-going neck pain, Susan joined the Pilates Studio New Farm as a client and became a passionate advocate after her pain disappeared after only a few sessions. She was so committed to combining the benefits of Pilates with physiotherapy that she bought the business in July 2007. In early 2009, she renamed our studio The Body Refinery, offering a full suite of services including physiotherapy, Pilates and remedial massage.
A passion for movement has meant that Susan has gone on to do further training in GYROTONIC(R), Running, Parkinsons disease and Womens health, to name a few. Susan is a mentor for Polestar Pilates education program and is passionate about ensuring that quality Pilates instruction is available to everyone.
Born on the Southside of Brisbane, Darcy became the Studio Manager in May 2016. She spent the previous two years working and living in London where she managed a high-class gym in the heart of London city.
Before travelling to Europe to embark on her adventure in England, she completed a Degree in Business and Event Management from Griffith University, Brisbane. She has a love for aerobics, having both competed in and coached for the Queensland and Australian Sport Aerobics team for 9 years, and enjoys living an active, healthy lifestyle.
Darcy first experienced the Pilates method when she was living in London and could instantly feel the benefits of regular Pilates practice in her body. She is a big advocate for Pilates and its ability to increase general fitness and wellbeing which is what brought her to The Body Refinery.
You will most likely see her smiling face or speak to Darcy over the phone or via email, she is primarily based at the Lamington Street studio.
Jordan joined The Body Refinery team in April 2015 after moving to Brisbane from the Sunshine Coast where she grew up. You will most likely speak to Jordan over the phone or via email as she is the practice Co-Coordinator for the studio on Commercial Road.
Jordan was heavily involved in team sports such as soccer, rugby and volleyball and has a passion for movement and sport. She completed her Bachelor of Sport and Exercise Science in 2014. Jordan's love of movement inspired her to train in Pilates to become a Pilates instructor. In 2016 Jordan completed her certificate 4 in Pilates with Polestar Pilates and is now teaching Pilates at The Body Refinery. Not only will you speak to her on the phone you will also see her in a Pilates class!
Sarah originally completed a Bachelor of Marine Biology and was working in the Queensland Government assessing cases of environmental harm. However, her love of Pilates increased to the point that she couldn’t tear herself away from the Pilates studio to go to work! She made the decision to have a change of career and become a Pilates instructor herself.
With that much love for the Pilates method, Sarah is passionate about imparting the benefits of practicing Pilates, and loves nothing more than seeing her clients functional movements improve.
Sarah joined the team in March 2016 in the roll of Practice Coordinator while studying her Certificate IV with Polestar Pilates. You will now find her teaching Mat and Reformer classes in the studio as well as behind the reception desk.

Since graduating as a Physiotherapist from the University of Queensland in 2002, Kelly has worked with clients in Australia, Canada and the UK.Kelly has extensive experience working in tertiary referral hospitals and private practice and enjoys the challenge of combining traditional physiotherapy methods with movement based therapy. Kelly trained in the Pilates method at the Stott Pilates International Training Centre in Toronto, Canada.
Kelly has a special interest in the management of womens health and pregnancy related conditions, namely pelvic floor dysfunction, urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse and pregnancy related pelvic girdle pain.
Agnieszka, or Aga, graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa, in 2006, with a Bachelor of Physiotherapy degree. She has since gained extensive experience in the management of a wide range of acute and chronic conditions, in both a hospital and private practice setting. She immigrated to Australia in 2010 and settled in Brisbane, where she has been working in private practice, focusing on the treatment and rehabilitation of musculoskeletal and sports injuries.
Aga's special interests include: musculoskeletal injuries, back and neck pain, headache and temporomandibular disorder. She is skilled and experienced in dry needling, which she has found very effective in the treatment of pain arising from muscular, joint and neural structures. She has completed her Pilates training with DMA Clinical Pilates, as well as Polestar Pilates. Aga believes in a holistic, active and hands-on approach to treatment, and the prevention of recurrence.
Lydia qualified from Liverpool University in 2005, with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physiotherapy. She has since built up valuable skills in the UK treating a wide range of acute, sub-acute and chronic musculoskeletal problems, in both a hospital and private practice environment. Her special interests include low and upper back pain, including antenatal and prenatal back care, tendonosis and shoulder pain.
Lydia aims to treat not just the injury, but to also work with the client to develop appropriate strategies and exercises to help prevent re-occurrence of these injuries and for long-term self-management. Lydia is trained to use acupuncture based dry needling for treatment of musculoskeletal problems, and finds it very useful in treating back, neck, shoulder and knee pain, including arthritis. Lydia also has a special interest in the use of Pilates in rehabilitation from injury or as a preventative measure and finds it very effective.
Kristen completed her Master of Physiotherapy studies at the University of Queensland in 2014 with a special interest in sports and in particular golf having been a previous high level amateur golfer with the Queensland Academy of Sport.
She has also been involved in research investigating Achilles and patella tendinopathy and femoroacetabular impingement in athletes. Being an overall movement enthusiast Kristen believes in and participates in a variety activities including Pilates, weight training and yoga.
Kristen has completed her Pilates training with both the Pilates Institute of Queensland and Polestar Pilates.

Luíseach completed her Masters degree in Physiotherapy from University College Dublin, Ireland in 2015.
She has had a keen interest in human movement and injury prevention for many years which led her complete a Bachelor of Science in Injury Rehabilitation & Athletic Therapy in 2011. Luíseach has many years of injury prevention and rehabilitation experience from working with occupational and sport injuries through Gaelic sport and Rugby clubs in Ireland. Her main interests are based around injury prevention and rehabilitation through movement and she swears by Pilates for its benefits. Luíseach has suffered back pain from scoliosis for many years and found she greatly benefited from pilates in alleviating her pain and improving her posture. She complete her pilates training through STOTT in 2011.
Luiseach is also trained in Vestibular Rehabilitation and Dry Needling. In 2016, she completed her training in PD Warrior and Runity and is enjoying sharing her skills with both the parkinson's disease population and the running population.
Liza completed her Masters of Physiotherapy at UQ in 2013, after finishing her BSc. in Sports Medicine at The University of Virginia, USA. She has a special interest in rehabilitation post sports injury and has worked as a team Physiotherapist for women's club soccer. Her background includes power-lifting, body-building, yoga, cycling, swimming, running, and snowboarding.
Liza has years of hospital experience and will happily guide you with rehabilitation pre/post orthopedic surgery. She also enjoys treating those with neurological conditions such as Parkinson's, stroke, and post neurological surgery.
Having been an athlete, Liza knows first hand that using exercise-based therapy such as Clinical Pilates can assist in injury prevention and increased athletic performance. She will work with you to achieve your athletic goals whether it be at a competitive level, for the annual skiing holiday, or for Sunday afternoon tennis match. She believes as Joseph Pilates said "Change happens through movement and movement heals".
Liza has completed her Clinical Pilates training through the Australian Physiotherapy Pilates Institute. She is also trained in the Sara Key Technique, Rock taping, dry needling, and western acupuncture.
Elke Chappell graduated at Q Academy Brisbane in 2012 with a Diploma of Remedial Massage, and has not stopped learning since. With completing her studies in Dry Needling, Manual Lymphatic Drainage, Reflexology, Myofascial Cupping, and Kinesiology taping, she consistently continues to build her knowledge with the human body.
Elke's main focuses in treatment are headaches, jaw pain, neck pain, back pain, and hip imbalances; she aims to treat these accordingly from the feet up. Using a principle of how we are balanced emotionally and physically through out our daily life, can tell us a lot about our pain.
Elke has always been active with previously playing most sports, including regional touch football and netball, and now she continues with yoga, Pilates, acrobatics, dancing and lots more. Having this understanding of so many activities, it helps her allocate a personalized treatment and exercise to each of her clients to help them gain the strength and flexibility to function without pain in everyday life.
Emma completed her Stott training in Mat Work and Equipment Pilates in 2009. She continued to study and completed her Advanced Cadillac, Chair and Barrels training in 2012. She has a full certification in the Stott Pilates method.
Emma is extremely passionate about Pilates and enjoys training her clients and loves to help them achieve both their personal and health related goals. Emma works at both the Lamington Street and Commercial Road studio teaching both Studio Pilates classes and Express Reformer classes. You can also fast track your Pilates practice by booking in for a Private Pilates lesson with Emma, she will definitely get your body moving and feeling fabulous!
Kellie completed her Matwork certification through Polestar Pilates in 2014 and is currently completing her full Pilates Diploma qualification. Adding to this, she also has a certification in Dance and Personal Training.
Starting with Gymnastics and Classical Ballet, Kellie has always had a passion for movement and it was actually her mum that introduced her to the world of Pilates, at 10 years of age. Pilates was then recommended to help with her slight scoliosis and to further her Ballet career, but soon became a morning ritual, while dancing overseas. After injuring her knee during an audition, Kellie returned to Australia for surgery and to then hopefully dance again once recovered. While rehabilitating her knee through Pilates, she became inspired to help others feel their best and decided to book herself into the Matwork course for the following year.
She is extremely passionate about Pilates and the amazing benefits it has, not only physically, but also how movement can change how you feel mentally. Kellie would love to see you in one of her classes so get ready to move and to walk away feeling great!
Skye discovered her love for Pilates almost 20 years ago. She found it helped her to improve her fitness after no longer practicing Jazz Ballet after she completed High School. After spending 20 years in the Retail Industry in various roles, she was encouraged to look into Clinical Pilates which helped her improve her posture and manage her injuries.
The significant improvements she saw in her body after starting Pilates simply fuelled her passion for the Pilates method. As she practised more Pilates her love for it grew but she also developed a deep desire to spread the word about the effectiveness of the method. This led Skye to complete a Certificate in Mathwork with Polestar Pilates and she is continuing to study the Diploma in Studio and Rehabilitation Method in 2017.
What she enjoys most about teaching is being able to watch her clients on the journey of improving their posture, strength and functional movements, ultimately improving their health and wellbeing. You will see Skye teaching Reformer Pilates at The Body Refinery, book into one of her classes and your body will thank you for it!
Estee was first introduced to Pilates in 2007 and claims that it was "love at first sight". She was drawn to the precision of the practice, its ability to re-align both the body and mind of a person, as well as enhance the performance of other sports and physical activities.
Estee completed her BASI Mat Teacher Training in 2010 as a way to advance her personal practice as well as start educating and sharing her experience with others. In 2014 Estee completed the BASI Comprehensive Teacher Training course and became a full-time instructor at the BASI Pilates Host Centre in Johannesburg, South Africa. In 2015 Estee completed the BASI Pre and Postnatal Pilates course and enjoys working with mums-to-be and new mums. She is also passionate about training athletes and sportsmen and helping them improve their PB's and prevent injuries.
Estee has since joined our team as a part-time instructor and can be found teaching creative, core-trembling classes in the Express Reformer room or training private clients to reach their individual goals in the studio.
In 2011 Sarah began part time study at Endeavour College of Natural Health in a Bachelor of Health Science, Musculoskeletal Therapy, while working full time as a Team Leader and Learning and Development Officer with the QLD Government. Ever active and interested in different types of movement, exercise and all things musculoskeletal, curiosity lead her to try Pilates. Upon finding the exercises to feel graceful, nourishing for the body, challenging and precise, she was hooked and very soon felt the wonderful benefits within her daily exercise, movement and posture.
In 2013 Sarah began her Cert IV in Matwork Pilates with Polestar Pilates, resigned from her government job and committed to study her degree full time. Pilates became her part-time job and a wonderful practical learning component to her studies.
In 2016 Sarah graduated with distinction as a Musculoskeletal Therapist and commenced her Diploma of Studio and Rehabilitation Pilates with Polestar. Having completed the face to face training and much of the practical requirements of the course, she is looking forward to undertaking her exam later this year.
Feeling strong, able and mindfully connected to the body through movement is a joy and passion that Sarah aims to share with others through her reformer and studio classes here at the Body Refinery, join her on your movement journey!
Jeanine completed her BASI Pilates comprehensive training in 2010. She is passionate about introducing clients to the amazing benefits Pilates has to offer. It is this passion that led her to give up her career as a lawyer and pursue her love of movement and fitness, by becoming a full time Pilates instructor.
Jeanine taught for 5 years at one of the BASI host studios in South Africa, after which she opened her own home studio before moving to Brisbane. Leading an active life herself, Pilates has allowed her to become a stronger and more efficient mover in all of her favourite activities.
Jeanine teaches Studio Classes on Monday and Thursday mornings, at our Lamington St studio.
